Title I: Project Achieve

PROJECT ACHIEVE provides students with supplementary tutoring designed to assist them to reach the challenging academic standards expected of all students.

The program is funded by TITLE I Part A federal funds.

The GOAL of the project is to improve the LITERACY skills of the participating students, to build their confidence as learners, and to encourage their enthusiasm to become lifelong learners.

Students are selected for participation based on a number of factors including:

  • Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium scores
  • Standardized test scores
  • Informal Literacy Assessments
  • Teacher recommendation
  • Progress report grades
  • Academic level
  • Previous participation
  • Parent permission

PROJECT ACHIEVE STAFF includes a Title I Coordinator and a HIGHLY QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR with specialized training in direct intervention teaching methods.

Staff members are:

  •  Janice Bastille, Title I Coordinator
  •  Jamie Marcello, Literacy Tutor
  •  Karen Mullen, Project Manager
  •  Janet Moaratty, Secretary

Goals are developed and targeted intervention is directed to the needs of the students. Most students are tutored individually or in small groups for approximately 30 minutes per day. Assistance is typically provided within the classroom whenever possible, but may occur in a separate location if more appropriate.

Parents are welcome at the school and to call anytime. A variety of opportunities for parents to become involved are offered throughout the school year, including volunteering, attending various training workshops and family fun events, attending scheduled parent-teacher meetings, participating in PTO, attending field trips, etc…

Parent support is often the key to success! Sharing your love of learning, reading with your child, showing an interest in your child's school day, limiting TV and video exposure, are all ways to make a positive impact on your student's success!
