National Education Technology Standards (NETS) for Students:
http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_stands.html
Following are some of the skills, applications, and concepts that are taught at the appropriate grade levels:
using the keyboard
word-processing
drawing
graphic organizers
Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
Internet research
touch typing
math/facts practice
math concepts (e.g., pattern blocks, Venn diagrams, grouping, operations)
Internet access and research is introduced in second grade and all students must have parental permission before using the Internet at school. The Internet is used as a research tool to support the curriculum. Alternative lessons which do not include use of the Internet will need to be designed individually for students who do not have parental permission to use the Internet. All schools within SAU #16 use Internet filters which block access to sites that have been determined to have inappropriate content. In addition, at Swasey, all web sites are previewed and added to the “Favorites” folder so that students do not type web site addresses.
